Thermaltake Toughpower GF3 ARGB 750W PSU Review

Epilogue

RGB or not RGB, this is the question. Well, in this particular case, or PSU if I want to be more accurate, a quick look at the overall performance is enough to convince you that you should spend less to get the non-RGB GF3 model, which is currently sold for 135 dollars, while the ARGB GF3 has an MSRP of 160 dollars. Moreover, besides higher performance, you will also get lower noise output, which is equally essential for many users.

The build quality of the GF3 750 ARGB is high, and the compact dimensions and long warranty will surely help its position in the market since not many RGB-lit PSUs are currently available. Most brands don’t bother with RGB PSUs simply because you will need the appropriate chassis to show off the PSU, and from the moment many chassis have compartments for the PSUs, any RGB light out of it will be in vain since you won’t be able to notice it. Another thing could be the 300W 12VHPWR connector.

If you plan on buying an NVIDIA RTX 4080, you should look at an ATX v3.0 PSU featuring at least a 450W 12VHPWR connector. This is not a problem of this PSU, but this is a requirement of the ATX v3.0 spec. All 750W PSUs should have their 12VHPWR connectors set at 300W maximum sustained output and not higher. This requirement is often ignored by brands, equipping with 600W-set 12VHPWR connectors all of their PSUs, but this is fooling in a 750W unit since practically you leave very few Watts available for the CPU and the rest system components. If you decide to invest in a power-hungry GPU, you should spend a little more to get the appropriate PSU to power it.
