Thermaltake Toughpower GF A3 850W PSU Review

The Thermaltake Toughpower GF A3 850W is an ATX v3.0 and PCIe 5.o compatible unit, featuring a 12VHPWR connector that is set at 450W, which is enough for most modern GPUs. Its footprint is small, thanks to the 140mm depth, so you won’t have a tough time during installation. The fully modular design will help there, too.

The Thermaltake Toughpower GF A3 850W is included in my best ATX v3.0 & PCIe 5.0 PSU picks article.

You can find the reviews of the GF A3 units that I have evaluated so far below:

This is the third in a row Thermaltake PSU review, and this time, it is the GF A3 850W. One model is left in this line, which I will review soon. The Toughpower GF A3 850W is Platinum certified by Cybenetics in efficiency, while in noise, it has a Cybenetics A- badge (25-30 dB[A]). It uses a 120mm sleeve bearing fan, while only the 1200W model from this line uses a fluid dynamic bearing fan. I am not sure why TT used different fans in the GF A3 models, but I disapprove of the drop in the fan’s quality. A semi-passive operation is available, which can be switched off if you want the fan to be in operation constantly, and the provided warranty is ten years long, so TT is confident of the PSU’s reliability through time.

  1. Hello! I am currently choosing between this model and MSI MAG A850GL PCIE5 850W. As far as I understood, they are pretty much similar in terms of performance. The price is the same as well. The only difference I spotted is the noise level. Am I right? Which one would you choose?
