The Cougar GEX X2 line includes two members, with 850W and 1000W max power. Both are ATX v3.0 and PCIe 5.0 compatible and are equipped with a 600W 12VHPWR connector. I have already reviewed the 1000W model, so it was time to look at the lower-capacity unit.
The dimensions are super-compact, with only 140mm depth, and the PSU utilizes a fully modular cable design. In Cybenetics, the GEX X2 850W achieves the Platinum efficiency rating, while in noise, it scores Cybenetic A+, meaning it is dead silent. The warranty is seven years long. With a price of $150, the GEX X2 850W is in line with the competition since the Thermaltake GF3 850W, one of the most affordable branded 850W ATX v3.0 PSUs, goes for $145. The GEX X2 model uses a platform provided by XHY. Although HEC is the mother company of Cougar, the latter still chooses to use platforms from other OEMs to be more competitive. This means that HEC should upgrade its offerings so Cougar won’t need to reach out to other OEMs for good ATX v3.0 platforms.
