Corsair K65 Plus Wireless Keyboard Review

Key Rollover

Key rollover refers to the number of keys simultaneously registered by a keyboard. For example, a 6-key rollover means you can press any six keys simultaneously, and all will be registered correctly. I had to test how many keys the keyboard recognizes at once, and I proceeded to a test from the mechanical-keyboard.org website.

The maximum number of keys recognized at once was 43!

Usage Experience

It takes time to get used to this compact form factor, especially if your previous keyboard was full-size. The smaller size requires less desk space, meaning you have more space for your mouse. Although I have a huge desk, it is always covered with stuff, so I appreciated the keyboard’s small dimensions, although I missed the dedicated keypad occasionally. Another thing that left an excellent impression on me is the silent operation of the new Corsair MLX Red switches. Compared to the Wooting 2 keyboard I frequently use, the MLX Red switches are dead silent!

I like very much the rotary dial, especially since I can use it to lower or increase the lighting brightness of the keyboard. It was about time to have this option since I can easily adjust the sound level through windows, but for brightness, I have to use the FN keys, so it isn’t as straightforward.

This is primarily a gaming keyboard, and given the low actuation force and the short distance of the switches, it will be terrific in this role. Nonetheless, I used it primarily for writing, and I can say that I had no problems, although typically, Red switches are not ideal for this purpose.

I cannot say that I miss a wrist (or palm) rest, and given the small dimensions of the keyboard, I believe that the optional one would look weird. Nonetheless, there are users with different needs than mine who would need one bundled, given the increased price of this product.

I didn’t charge the keyboard for a short period of testing, so I cannot comment on how long its battery will truly last, especially with the RGB lighting active. Still, most likely, Corsair’s claims for 266 hours of operation with the backlight off won’t be far from the truth. In any case, the provided USB cable is long and flexible enough for a keyboard, so it won’t be a problem to connect it while using the keyboard.

The three different connectivity options are another asset, and what I liked more is that you can store the USB dongle on the keyboard itself so that you won’t lose it!
