Hyte THICC FP12 120mm Fan Review – The NEW Performance King!

Box, Contents & Bundle

The box has a photo of three fans connected without using any cables, at its face. In the bottom right corner, you will find its content description: 3x FP12 fans and a Nexus Portal module. Around the back, you will find more information, including the technical specifications, what’s inside the box, and the system requirements.

Everything is neatly arranged in the box.

A smaller box contains the increased number of cables, that accompanies the fans and the controller.

The Nexus Portal has a metallic cover, which you need to remove to connect the corresponding cables. This is not just a plain PWM and RGB controller, but a smart box utilizing an ARM processor to effectively control multiple devices. Besides RGB lighting and fan speed the NP can also act as a temperature and noise logger. Through the compatible application, users can set the fan and lighting settings taking into account thermals and acoustics. This device can be installed into a 2.5″ drive bay, ideally behind the mainboard, where all relative cables will be easily routed. The Nexus Portal NP50 operates as a primary node with three Nexus Link Type-C and one PWM channel to connect up to 18 devices on a single port and up to 54 devices across all three Type-C channels.

This is a fully modular fan since no fixed cables are attached to it. Its build quality looks good and the white color with the black blades makes a nice contrast. There are rubber pads on the corners for reduced vibrations, and the power outputs are covered with a grommet to protect from accidental short circuits.

Hyte Nexus App

You have to download the Nexus App to fully exploit the capabilities of the Nexus Link ecosystem. This software package is quite large at 400MB. At some point, it should follow Corsair ICUE’s philosophy, where the basic package is small, and it only downloads the required packages according to the installed compatible hardware parts that it finds.

  1. Really think you need to test the lian li p28 at this point. Can be had for under $15 regularly (bought mine for ~$12 a piece) and seems to have some rest performance.
Not gonna lie, had higher hopes for these hyte fans. Considering T30s have come down in price this makes it a tough sell.
