be quiet! Light Base 900 FX Case Review: Thermal & Noise Damping/Output Evaluation

Epilogue

The Light Base 900 is an all-around impressive offering from be quiet! The large size, heavy construction, PWM/ARGB controllers, and four Light Wings fans make the retail price seem reasonable. The very nicely executed wrap-around ARGB strips are a statement piece of the chassis. In addition, the ability to have the chassis in any orientation and the provisions to do so easily make it even easier to recommend. Keep in mind you may need someone to assist you when moving it around due to its sheer size and weight, even when empty.

You might be disappointed by the poor HDD support, as only one HDD bracket is included in such a large chassis.

The performance of the included fans in noise testing was good relative to the competition, as was the noise-dampening of the chassis. Given the chassis’s high volume and openness, the noise-normalized results at 25dBA were mediocre in torture testing. The CPU reached 89.3 deg. C. with the operating frequency being low. On the contrary, the GPU hot spot temperatures were low enough, and the respective operating frequencies were high enough. In Gaming, the CPU and GPU operating frequencies were high, and the thermals were better overall.

At full fan speed,d the torture test results were marginally better on the CPU and GPU, while the rest were once again close to average. The gaming results also saw similar improvements.

While its price and looks may not appeal to everyone, those willing to invest in a top-tier case with a refined layout and robust build quality will appreciate the Light Base 900 FX.
