ASRock SL-1200G 1200W ATX v3.1 PSU Review

The ASRock SL-1200G is a high-power, ATX v3.1 PSU. In the Cybenetics efficiency and noise schemes it is certified as Platinum and LAMBDA-A, respectively. Read the full review to find out more about this product.

The ASRock SL-1200G is (or will be) included in my best ATX v3.x & PCIe 5.x PSU picks article.

ASRock is continuing its push into the PSU market, with two major OEMs behind the respective products, HEC and FSP. The SL-1200G is based on an HEC platform, which achieves Platinum efficiency and LAMBDA-A noise certifications in the Cybenetics standards. This PSU also has an ATX v3.1 pass by Cybenetics, meaning that it meets all requirements of this standard.

To keep the noise down, ASRock utilizes the fan-stop feature, which it calls iCool mode. Thankfully, you can deactivate it through a switch located at the unit’s front side. It is highly preferred to have a PWM-driven fan spinning at low speeds under light loads, to remove the heat from the PSU’s internals, rather than have the fan stopped and allow for heat build-up, which will need increased fan speed later to be removed. Till this happens, it will stress sensitive, heat-sensitive parts. Moreover, in fluid dynamic bearing fans, initial contact might occur between the bearing and the shaft at startup before the hydrodynamic pressure builds up.

  1. Aris would u update Gamemax Lioncore 1000/1200P series, i’ve seen they just had cybenetics platinum ratings

    1. I will review them at some point. Their OEM is doing some serious effort to improve, and I try to help them (as I do with all the other OEMs who send me products for testing)

  2. Love your work but could you in future articles explain every test with simple explanation? I always forget what’s what and have to go to your Tom’s HW reviews to check 😀
For example from the Hold up time segment there: “Put simply; hold-up time is the amount of time that the system can continue to run without shutting down or rebooting during a power interruption.”

If you could mention briefly at the beginning of each test that would be great. If it’s not hassle to paste it every time of course 🙂

I’m still rocking a 2019 Seasonic Focus GX which I picked based on Jonny Guru’s review and I’m afraid that it will die soon so started my research and I’m glad to see that there is a new Guru in the PSU review space so thank you for your work.
Also, your reviews now made me hesitant to buy Seasonic when the time is here lol hopefully they are still reliable even though they are now midrange in these tests
