Silverstone FHS 120X Fan Review – 4000 RPM Beast

Epilogue

The Silverstone FHS 120X is a fan for special uses, offering tremendous performance levels in both airflow and static pressure. If you don’t care about noise output and the increased thickness (38mm), this fan is suitable for use in harsh environments where increased cooling is required. This is not a fan for normal users or desktop PCs but for server units mostly. Its price is fair given the extreme performance and the good build quality.

Another thing that caught my attention is how close the advertised values are to the ones that I measured with my Longwin machine. Obviously, Silverstone checked the fan with a proper machine and included the real specs and not some highly optimistic ones. So far, no one from the review community could verify, with lab-grade equipment, the performance of fans. Don’t get me wrong, there are 1-2 reviewers out there who do an extremely good job with machines that they built on their own, but the problem is that when their data is significantly different from the manufacturer’s data, the latter can claim that the equipment that the reviewer used is not certified, so it is not trustworthy (and I cannot blame them for that since everything has to be certified in a lab). This is why I decided to buy a certified fan testing machine so that no manufacturer could challenge my data.

If you don’t want something so extreme in terms of performance, noise, and thickness, you have two options: The Phanteks T30-120 and the Super Flower Megacool.
