Corsair RM1000x Shift ATX v3.1 PSU Review

After the HXi Shift, Corsair released the more affordable RMx Shift series which consists of three members with capacities ranging from 750W to 1000W. This line is ideal for users wanting the side-mounted modular panel, yet don’t want to pay the premium price of the HXi Shift models.

The Corsair RM1000x Shift is (or will be) included in my best ATX v3.x & PCIe 5.x PSU picks article.

I have already evaluated Corsair’s fresh HXi Shift models, which CWT makes, and now the time has come for the new RMx Shift units, which Great Wall makes. Corsair provides the key features of this new series; some of them you can find below, filtered (by me) to remove any marketing extras:

  • Easy-Access Connection Position: Modular connections on the side of the PSU mean easier access for your cables and simpler, cleaner cable management
  • Native 12V-2×6 GPU Cable
  • Fully Modular Connectors: CORSAIR Type-5 PSU cables
  • Debossed PVC Cable Kit
  • 140mm Fluid Dynamic Bearing Fan
  • Zero RPM Fan Mode Support: At low and medium loads, the cooling fan switches off entirely for near-silent operation
  • Fan Speed Knob: Users have the freedom to adjust the fan speed to their own needs
  • Cybenetics Gold Certified [They are actually Platinum, but Corsair decided to “downgrade” them]
  • Intel ATX 3.1 Certified [Verified by Cybenetics]
  • 105°C-Rated 100% Japanese Capacitors
  • Ten-Year Warranty

As you will notice, Corsair advertises them as Cybenetics Gold, but they actually got a Platinum efficiency certification. To keep its PSU portfolio in order, Corsair didn’t want to use the Cybenetics Platinum badge, and, according to Cyben’s policy, any brand can use any badge up to the one it already has. Meaning that in Cyben’s certification levels, “downgrades” are allowed, but in no case “upgrades”. It goes without saying that nobody can use a Cyben badge if the product hasn’t been evaluated and earned it. Typically, this should be the case for all certification agencies. Unfortunately, some still don’t care about “fake” badges, leaving users vulnerable to shady brand tactics (see the Gamdias example).

The MSRP prices of Corsair’s new RMx Shift series PSUs are listed below:

  • RM750x Shift: $155
  • RM850x Shift: $170
  • RM1000x Shift: $210
