All Thermaltake PT models are built on the CWT (Channel Well Technology) CSA platform. They carry Cybenetics Platinum efficiency certification and are verified for ATX v3.1 compliance by the same agency. In this review, we’ll take a closer look at the smallest unit in the lineup—the 850W model.
The Thermaltake Toughpower PT 850 is (or will be) included in my best ATX v3.x & PCIe 5.x PSU picks article.
The Thermaltake Toughpower PT series includes three models, ranging from 850W to 1200W. Each unit holds a Cybenetics Platinum efficiency certification and is verified by the same agency for full ATX v3.1 compliance. To enhance the lineup’s appeal, Thermaltake has equipped these PSUs with Japanese capacitors, a hydraulic-bearing fan, and a fully modular cable design.

All PT models are rated for continuous full-load operation at 40°C, which is somewhat low for a high-end platform. In the 1200W and 1000W models, I didn’t account for this during testing, which pushed them above 45°C. In the 850W model, I applied up to 41°C during the normal tests; however, during protection feature evaluations, though, I significantly exceeded the rated loads and operating temperatures—driving the platform well past its limits until the protection circuits kick in to save it… or it fails spectacularly.
