SilverStone Triton 1000Rz ATX v3.1 PSU Review

The SilverStone Triton 1000Rz is Cybenetics Gold certified and it also has an Intel ATX v3.1 pass from the same certification agency, making things interesting for users seeking a strong yet compact, in dimensions, PSU.

The SilverStone Triton 1000Rz is (or will be) included in my best ATX v3.x & PCIe 5.x PSU picks article.

SilverStone’s Triton line consists of four models with capacities ranging from 650W to 1000W. All units have compact dimensions with 140mm depth, and because of the small dimensions, SilverStone decided to equip them with a 120mm fan, instead of the typical 135/140mm fans typically used. Another notable feature of the new units is the ATX v3.1 compliance, meaning that they can deliver up to 200% of their max output for small periods without issues. Lastly, SilverStone mentions that they all use Japanese electrolytic capacitors for increased reliability. If you want to get some real data about capacitor performance, I suggest you look at the corresponding Cybenetics database.

The SilverStone Triton 1000Rz achieves Gold efficiency in the Cybenetics ETA standard, and it also has a Cybenetics Standard++ noise (LAMBDA) rating, which means that it doesn’t have a silent (overall) operation. First of all, this is a compact ATX PSU, measuring only 140mm in length, so its power density is increased compared to similar capacity PSUs with large dimensions. Secondly, it uses a 120mm fan instead of a 135mm or 140mm fan, and the smaller-diameter fan has to spin at higher speeds to provide the same airflow as the larger fans. The two reasons mentioned above notably affect the PSU’s output noise, especially under stressful conditions. This is why I am not a huge fan of compact PSUs with high power density, but I prefer PSUs with larger PCBs, which offer plenty of space between parts for adequate airflow.

In today’s review, I will evaluate the strongest member of the line, which features a maximum power output of 1000W.
