Thermaltake Toughpower GF3 ARGB 750W PSU Review

Box & Bundle

At the face of the box is a photo of the PSU, with its fan lit. The central selling point of this PSU, besides ATX v3.0 compatibility, seems to be the RGB lighting. I am not a huge fan of RGB PSUs, but there is a market share for these units, else Thermaltake wouldn’t bother releasing two different GF3 models in the 750W and 850W categories.

The protection inside the box is good, and the cable pouch is always a nice touch since most won’t use all cables, and you need to store them somewhere. The bundle also includes several zip ties, besides the paperwork and the set of fixing bolts.

Product Photos

The fan grille is limiting airflow. Thermaltake should change the exterior design to something more airflow-friendly to lower noise output.

Enough cables and connectors are provided, but there is a problem, and this is the EPS cable holding two connectors of this kind. Since the EPS cable is connected to the PSU through an 8-pin socket, the pair of EPS connectors can create issues if both are fully loaded. EPS connectors should only be installed on dedicated cables, not piggy-tail ones.

Besides the four 6+2 pin PCIe connectors, there is also a 300W 12VHPWR for supporting mid-level NVIDIA graphics cards or any upcoming AMD ones once the latter starts using 12VHPWR sockets. Lastly, there is an ARGB sync cable to sync the PSU’s lighting with the rest RGB-lit parts of your system, should you want to.
