MSI MAG A1250GL PCIE5 ATX v3.1 PSU Review

The MSI MAG A1250GL PCIE5 is a powerful ATX v3.1 compliant power supply, certified as Gold in the Cybenetics scheme. It has a compact footprint, thanks to the 150mm depth and it can deliver up to 2500W if required, for short periods, without shutting down or breaking.

The MSI MAG A1250GL PCIE5 will be included in my best ATX v3.x & PCIe 5.x PSU picks article.

MSI is making a strong effort to enter the PSU market, and I had the chance to meet its PSU team at Computex 2024. Unfortunately, we didn’t take a photo together to show you because MSI’s booth was hugely packed with people. On top of that, I had 12-13 meetings that day, so the photo part skipped my mind.

In 2022, MSI started using the MEG, MPG, and MAG classifications for its products. You can find a complete analysis of these on MSI’s official page. MEG is the high-end, MPG is mid-range, and MAG is for affordable units. The A1250GL belongs to the MAG line, which mainly focuses on performance per price, which matters the most for users. The unit’s dimensions are super-compact for a 1250W PSU, thanks to the 150mm depth. All cables are fully modular else. It would be a nightmare with such high capacity. Besides the Cybenetics Gold efficiency level, this unit also has a Cybenetics Standard+ noise level certification, which means it isn’t so quiet. Given the unit’s high capacity and compact footprint, I didn’t expect low average noise output, but I will analyze that later in this review using the PSU’s noise map. By testing with nearly 1500 different load levels, you can have detailed performance maps of the PSU’s major segments like voltage regulation, ripple, efficiency, noise, and others, so it is easy to check its performance thoroughly. You might wonder why others don’t do it because it requires lots of time, electricity, and special software and methodology, which took me many years to develop.
