AMD Ryzen 7 8700G APU Review: Performance, Thermals & Power Analysis

Power Consumption

I use the Powenetics system to measure power consumption in every significant part of the mainboard, with up to 1000 readings per second. The power demands of the 8700G APU are low, in general.

Peak Power Consumption

I obtained the peak power consumption readings shown in the graph above during the start of the Prime95 benchmark.

The power spike in Prime95 is clearly shown in the graph above.

Energy Usage

In the single-thread scenario, I measured SuperPi, where the 8700G performed terribly (I couldn’t find why), so naturally, I didn’t expect it to be highly efficient. At multi-thread usage, the APU performs way better.
