be quiet! Silent Wings Pro 4 140mm Fan Review – Three Mode Silencer!

The be quiet! Silent Wings Pro 4 140mm has three modes, allowing you to select from dead silent operation and low performance, to high noise and equally high performance. The choice is yours! Personally I would leave it at the UHS mode, and would just adjust fan speed through PWM to adjust performance and noise output to my taste.

I have noticed several fans having a mode selector, which might be a cool feature, but it makes my job way harder. Evaluating such fans is a three-to-one review since I must take three full measurement sets for each available operational mode. Moreover, when the mode selector is located on the fan, it makes its adjustment highly inconvenient since access to the fan is required, and the latter is usually installed deep into the chassis. Super Flower was smart enough to provide a remote control for its fan, which works pretty well, even behind steel doors and thick walls, adjusting the speed of all compatible fans at once, but still, you can misplace the remote control. So why not just change the fan speed through the PWM signal and get over with these fan speed modes? Because I overlooked the fan speed mode switch, I had to re-do all noise measurements, and the same happened during the performance tests on the Longwin machine. So you can imagine why I don’t like these mode switches.

The Silent Wings Pro 4 140mm is a high-end fan with a 6-pole fan motor and a fluid dynamic bearing for lower noise output and increased reliability, as depicted by the 5-year warranty. The speed switch I mentioned above allows you to select between medium-speed, high-speed, and ultra-high-speed (up to 2400 RPM). The manufacturer claims high static pressure thanks to the decreased distance between the fan blades and the frame, which prevents air leaks.

be quiet! provides three different mounting options for radiator, chassis, and general usage.

  1. Hi!
Thanks for the very cool and high-quality reviews, no one else does that.

I want to ask you to test noctua nf-a14, a new generation model will be released in the 2024q1, it would be cool to compare

  2. So basically they lost in what was meant to be their niche of static pressure across the board to a cheaper rgb fan? 😂. Even more embarrassing is in Australia where these are about $65 aud where the shark’s have dropped to $25. Either way ur testing is invaluable for these more niche products especially, cheers.
