Arctic P14 PWM PST 140mm Fan Review

Epilogue

Compared to the P14 PWM PST CO, which uses a double ball bearing, the plain PST model with the fluid dynamic bearing achieves slightly higher performance, losing only to static pressure at 30 dBA normalized noise output. Strangely enough, the noise output is higher, especially at 70%, where I noticed increased bearing noise, which can be annoying. Thanks to the DBB bearings, the P14 PWM PST CO is suitable for operation in harsh conditions (e.g., high operating temperatures), and the lower power consumption means that the thermal loads of its bearings are minimized, stressing it less, thus increasing its lifetime. This is why I would choose the DBB version over the FDB one.

At 25 dBA normalized noise output, low enough not to annoy most users but still provides high speeds to offer decent performance, both P14 models are close in performance, not standing out from the crowd. The performance king is the super expensive Lian Li UNI FAN TL 140 RGB, followed by the very good InWin Neptune AN140, which is budget-oriented, with an asking price of about 30 dollars for the triple-pack, also offering RGB lighting. So, in this category, I would prefer InWin’s offering over all the other 140mm fan offerings unless you are after the highest possible performance, not caring for noise output. In this case, you should look at the Super Flower Megacool 140mm.

To check all alternative fan offerings, read my Best Cooling Fans article before investing in new cooling solutions. You help me a lot by using my affiliate links, which don’t increase the product’s price. I get a commission from Amazon every time you do it, which can make a difference for me, especially now that I am on my own, working exclusively for my media and not for someone else.

Pros:
  • Highly affordable
  • Decent performance in the normalized noise tests
  • Wide RPM operation (160 – 1770 RPM), including zero RPM mode
  • Not noisy, even at full speed
  • Daisy chain option (with long cables, though)
  • Rifle bearing for increased lifetime
  • PWM control
  • Low power consumption
  • 6-year warranty
Cons:
  • Performance that doesn’t stand out from the crowd
  • Noise spike at 70% speed
  • Rifle bearing and not FDB as advertised

  1. Great review as always, thanx
One small typo on the 2nd site, last sentence. There should be superior.
…not the 1st typo in this exact word … I have two guesses for the reason:
1st: superior in Greek = ανώτερος [anóteros] …phonetically close prefix an ≈ in…. or
2nd: you work too hard (almost every day one YouTube video and one review + other activities) … you should rest more, not just work … in Slovakia we have a saying… work is not a rabbit, it will not run away, it will wait at you … 😊
