ΗΥΤΕ Υ40 Case Review: Thermal & Noise Damping/Output Evaluation

Chassis Photos – Outside

The chassis’s first look leaves a good impression. Our review sample’s panda colorway might be a bit harder to photograph, but it looks good.

The front panel is made of glass and a metal frame on one side, held in place by an impressive number of screws. However, we later discovered that the front glass is a structural chassis member. Without it, the top part of the chassis shagged and wobbled with minimal effort.

The front I/O is seemingly identical to all the other HYTE products. You have two USB 3.0 Type-A ports, one USB 3.2 Type-C, and a combined mic/headphone 3.5mm jack. Conveniently, an audio splitter is included.

The glass side panel meets the front glass panel nicely, with a small and even gap. it has a small metal strip along the top and another one along the bottom. The top one also integrates the handle used to remove it. The design is relatively inconspicuous, nicely hiding it in plain sight.

The back panel has the same handle design as the other side. It also has an excellent design that conceals the chassis’s side air intake. This design element is continued on the top panel as well. The back panel uses steel on the outside and plastic on the inside. That’s yet another place where you’ll find the HYTE logo.

The top panel may be fully plastic, but it feels quality. It snaps in place with plastic clips.

On the rear, besides the motherboard I/O and the PSU mount, you will find a very characteristic HYTE design for the rear fan vent. Moreover, you will find a non-reconfigurable expansion slot design. There are six half-size horizontal ones and four vertical slots. Numerous metal tabs protrude to manage the cables around the back, which is becoming more common nowadays.

The bottom panel has a unique design that splits the dust filter into two parts. One negative aspect of the implant is that each part is removed from different sides. A simple change in the feet’ design would help access both panels from a single side. They are also a bit hard to remove.

Moving to the inside, the first element that captivates your attention is the odd shapes HYTE has incorporated. The CPU backplate cutout and the side fan mounts stand out, as does the bottom side, which has a similar design to the exterior back panel. Around the motherboard tray, you will find cable pass-throughs.

Additional openings along the top provide ample building space and significantly help with cable management.

You will also find the pre-installed rear fan, which looks great but has a 3-pin connector, unfortunately.

The PCIe riser extension is held in place with two screws on the expansion slot cover and two more screws secure on top of the PSU enclosure. Unlike the Y60, only part of the enclosure is ventilated along the glass side panel.

Behind the motherboard tray, you will find a detachable mounting plate. It can support either a single 3.5″ drive or two 2.5″ drives. Many cable management metal tabs can be used with zip ties or plastic-sleeved wires to help route the cables.

Move a bit lower, and you will find the PSU enclosure, the other preinstalled fan, and the accessories box. There is padding for the PSU. You also find tucked-in front panel connectors. They include a USB 3.0 connector, a USB 3.2 Gen 2 connector, fused front panel pins, and an audio connector. At first glance, it looks like there is ample room for accessories, but the placement of the fan prohibits the installation of other parts, and you also have to be quite careful with loose wires that may end up inside the fan blades.

A potentially better solution would be to mount the fan on the upper part, leaving free space below for cables, fan controllers, HDDs, or whatever else the users fancy. A cable shelf is also integrated, but it’s hard to access, especially with larger hands.

The available space measures right at 30mm.
