Overall Performance

It has been in production for many years and is not ATX v3.x compatible, so it loses performance points. Still, it is the undisputed champion in the category’s rich portfolio of PSU products, and not only! I am talking, of course, about the Corsair AX1600i! I wish Corsair could persuade Flextronics to update this platform and deliver an AX1700i, but as far as I know, this won’t happen since Flextronics doesn’t want to deal with desktop PSUs. That said, Flextronics was the only one able to deliver a super high-performance semi-digital platform that was reliable at the same time. Other manufacturers tried to reverse the AX1600i’s design and, more specifically, the firmware that drives so efficiently and reliably the totem-pole PFC converter but failed.

On my recent visit to the Great Wall’s headquarters, I noticed that its engineers could deliver something similar, but I am not sure why such a project hasn’t been initiated so far, given that Corsair has close ties with this OEM (SF-L line). Delta also tried to make a similar platform, used by the XPG Fusion 1600, and although the final result is decent, it still cannot go head-to-head with the AX1600i in terms of performance. Flextronics has vast experience manufacturing desktop high-performance PSUs with GaN MODFETs and totem-pole PFC converters. So, other OEMs will need several years to reach the same performance levels. It is not only performance but reliability, with the Wentai Aidan 1616 being a significant example since this platform proved to not stand well through time.

  1. Hi there, I’d like to ask if you already reviewed SF750, since it’s regarded as the best SFX for SFF builds, and still used with a beast of GPU like RTX 4090. Even with SFX-L options such as SF850L or Loki 850w, many SFF user still went for SF750.

Is EVGA done with power supplies?
