A downside of the ATX v3.1 spec is that it allows for a lower hold-up time, from 17ms (ATX v3.0) to 12 ms.

  3. I’m happy to see the PSU I bought for my new PC, the NZXT C1000 Gold, lead the overall performance chart for 230V. But I don’t understand how it can have a better overall performance than the FSP Hydro Ti Pro 1000W when the FSP crushes the NZXT in almost every other chart. I did go through the Cybenetics PSU Test Protocol to understand more about the overall performance calculation; the only thing left is to follow through the calculations myself. I only went for the NZXT because it was much cheaper.

  4. Hello. I’m in need to upgrade the PSU of my PC and I looked a lot on this site and in others, but there is so much good looking options that I cannot choose one. I’m looking for 850W PSU under 160 bucks. So there are my options for now with prices below from lowest to highest, if someone would help me I would be glad:
    -Cooler Master MWE GOLD V2(123$)
    -FSP/Fortron VITA GM 850W(131$)
    -NZXT C850 V2(144$)
    -Thermaltake Toughpower GF 850W(144$)

    I do not require high level of silence, just not something completely over the top. It will power Ryzen5 7600 and 7800XT for now. Also RMx Shift and Super Flowers here are much more expensive, like 200 bucks.

    Hydro K PRO ATX3.0(PCIe5.0) 750W or XPG Kyber ATX3.1 750W which is better? I have no other choice because these are the only options for the prebuilt PC that I’m gonna buy. XPG Kyber seem to have better specs on paper but i don’t know if it’s really better. I don’t care about noise, I want it to be reliable and durable.

    Some details: First of all i live in Turkey. FSP PSU comes with FSP CMT318 PC case, XPG Kyber comes with XPG K Mesh case. I can’t find individual pricing for XPG PSU but with case + psu it’s $126 on the internet, FSP case + psu is $164. Both PSU + case sold at the same price on the website that I’m buying my prebuilt PC. My overall profit decreases when i choose XPG case + psu.

  6. Hi, Im new to PSU’s Ratings and all, but i came across 2 PSU that i wanted to buy. It’s either Super Flower Leadex VII Platinum PRO 1000W – SF-1000F14XP (Im too confused to pick which model on the SF Leadex Lineup) or the MONTECH TITAN GOLD 1000W 80+ GOLD.

    Are they good? Im planning to use them for a 4080S and 7950x3d. And maybe dual gpu config in the future (If you have any suggestions on more watts PSU models, i would be happy)

    1. I would go for the Super Flower unit. It can support your hardware yes, but for dual GPU you should better go for a 1500-1600W unit. Super Flower 1600W Titanium, or Seasonic Prime PX-1600. Or Corsair HX1500i

    1st Player NGDP 1000W has an overall performance of 98.15% (230V) in your charts. This makes it one of the best 1000W PSUs, right?
    My question is: Why is it so cheap? Is there something that I should worry about?

    1. I discovered that your review of “1st Player NGDP 1000W” is for the HA-1000BA3 model, which is “Platinum” and costs €133.
      The “Gold” rated HA-1000BA4 is likely not the same PSU. So I’m going with the HA-1000BA3 (Platinum).

    1. FSP units are very good for transient response, which matters the most in today’s systems. If you want the lowest possible noise output, use the Asus unit. If you can exploit the side modular panel, the Corsair unit.

    Since they are around the same price, which would you go for?

    NZXT C1000 Gold ATX 3.1 or the Thermaltake Toughpower PF3 1050W Platinum? From what I can tell the main difference is that the NZXT is ATX 3.1, but only Cybenetics Gold, whereas the Thermaltake is ATX 3.0 but Cybenetics Platinum. I don’t really care about the noise rating difference to be frank.

    I bought CORSAIR HX150Oi (cp-9020261-eu) which corsair advertises it as ATX 3.1 certified.The box that came though says atx 3.0.Corsair support via email told me that the 12VHPWR cable meets both 3.0 and 3.1 requirements.Shouldn’t though for the psu to be atx 3.1 also integrate-or support- the new sense pins, to support for example the zero watt scenario?Do you happen to know if the atx 3.0 version supports already the zero watt ?That would explain their claim of atx 3.1 certified ,even if the box says 3.0.I am asking this ,because 3.1 is not only about the cable,it must also comply with the new sense pins.Thank you

    1. It is complied with both ATX3.1 and 3.0. The reason for not being mentioned as ATX3.1 is the packaging which costs to be replaced.

        1. The core difference of ATX3 vs 3.1 is that 3 is more strict (e.g., higher hold-up time requirement) than 3.1. So, if a PSU complies with ATX 3 it auto-complies and with 3.1. The cable remains the same.

  23. Hey. Thanks for the list. I wonder that is Asus Rog Loki 1200W Atx3.0 or Atx3.1? On their web page it says Atx 3.1 compatible but on the box of the item it says Atx3.0. I’ve just bought one for 280$ and I’m not sure it’s worth it or not? I just wanted to buy best and compact psu for once. I didn’t need 1200w but I wanted it to be future proof.     1. You don’t have to worry, in PSUs I can say that I prefer ATX v3.0 because the hold-up time is longer 🙂 I don’t remember the type of connector it has. You can check it easily if it has 12V-2×6 or 12VHWR. The sense pins are deep inside the socket in the first.

    I’m building a new PC powered by 7800X3D and RTX 4080. Choosing the PSU has turned out to be quite challenging. My options are:
    – 1STPLAYER NGDP 1000W (~$150 in my area)
    – Montech Titan Gold 1000W (~$180)
    – XPG Core Reactor II 1000 Gold (~$180)
    – Deepcool PX1000G (~$180)

    Deepcool PX1000P and Super Flower Leadex VII are more expensive ($220 and $200)

    I might as well go for 850W with the respective models + be quiet Straight Power 12 ($165). What would be a better option and model?

  26. Trying to order a 90-degree 12vhpwr by 2x 8pin PCI-e cable to connect an Nvidia FE 4080 Super GPU and a Super Flower Leadex VII XG 850 PSU.

    Cable mod makes a 90-degree cable that is compatible with a Super Flower Leadex III PSU. Are the 8pin PCI-e connectors on the Leadex VII pinned the same as on the Leadex III ?

  28. Between the seasonic vertex platinum 1200W and super flower leadex vii 1300w, which would you go with? Primary concern is ripple and transients. Adding it to a 4090+7700x build

    Would love the seasonic tx 1300W but it’s just too pricey, unless you think it’d be worth saving for. Currently have an evga 1000 g3 with the atx adapter to get me by.

  29. Would love to see you check out the Antec NeoECO NE1000G M or NE1300G M. From what I can find they seem to be a Helly OEM design (according to johnnylucky’s PSU database), and the psu seem rather interesting. I’ve been tempted to pick one up, but have been unsure about it over the Seasonic Vertex GX-1000W considering it’s been on sale. They are around similar price points. If it is indeed a Helly design PSU, would it in theory perform similar to something like the NGDP 1000W? From what I could find, It has a FDB fan with no Ball bearings from Yate Loon. The cables are all 16awg except the sata, and Molex cables which are 18.

    In Korea, many people understand that pcie 5.1 is a socket on the graphics card of the motherboard. But in the content, we are all talking about power cables. Can I use pcie 5.0 as it is for the motherboard?

      1. The Korean community says that PCie 5.0 on the motherboard changes to 5.1
        So the motherboard of PCie 5.0 on sale becomes useless when it changes to 5.1.
        But it seems to me that the motherboard has nothing to do with this issue and only needs to change the power.

    I have a Corsair Rm550x PSU back from 2018 that is currently powering a Ryzen 5 5600 and GTX 1060 GPU. I am looking at upgrading to an RTX 4070 Super or an RX 7900 GRE, and possibly upgrading the CPU also to a 5800x3d at a later date.
    Do you think the Rm550x is still ok if I am only using the pc for gaming at 1440p, or is it time for an upgrade? If so, what PSUs would you reccomend?

    After checking out your articles about atx 3.x, I can’t help but feel a bit frustrated as I got a Prime PX1600 atx 3.0 PSU and need to get another 1200+ watts atx 3.x for my brother’s build.
    It costs quite a penny and now I just feel like it will need to be upgraded for the next GPUs that will have the 12V-2×6 sockets. I’m just speculating, but by then the PSU maufacturers will update (AGAIN) their lineup to have that connector on their PSUs. Is there something I’m missing in order to circumvent that ? Or just change PSUs and sink another 800+ bucks in just a year for the two PCs?

    Also, you mention that the change from 3.0 to 3.1, wont be beneficial unless you have both a 3.1 PSU and 3.1 gpu. I found this news regarding Seasonic releasing a “12v-2×6” cable: https://videocardz.com/newz/seasonic-reveals-its-new-12v-2×6-angled-power-invites-rtx-40-owners-to-test-it

    PS: I initially wanted to go with the cybercore II 1300w or the MSI AI1300P, but the XPG wasn’t available and the MSI’s 24pin would never click on the mobo (almost impossible to get it flush, almost broke the mobo pcb, and extremely hard to pull out, I had to use a flathead screwdriver to seperate it) so I returned it. Is it normal or I just had a faulty cable ?

    1. The fact is that the PSU’s connector rarely creates issues, whether it is 12VHPWR or 12V-2×6. You won’t have any issues if you have the respective cable connected properly (all the way into the socket). The problem was mainly with the graphics cards. So, I wouldn’t worry much about the PSU.

Allright funky one : Why the PSU high end market doesn’t offer the possibility of managing the power supply of our screens and thus benefit a little more from their efficiency. with double or triple screens becoming usual and drawing more and more pixels this seems like a good idea? with few ports on the back next to the input and little plastic protection when not used and all good!

    I’m also sad you don’t have any test of the FSP Hydro Ti Pro 850W but since i might wait for the atx3.1 and pci 5.1 i don’t care that much 🙂

    1. Overall performance takes into account ALL major aspects in a PSU, from load regulation and ripple, to efficiency and transient response.
