The Cooler Master GX III 650W is a mid capacity ATX v3.0 compliant PSU, equiped with a single 12+4 pin connector/cable set for 300W max power delivery, supporting mid-level GPUs. The OEM of this unit is Lite-On, one of the largest manufacturer of power adapters, which tries to make an entry into the desktop PSU market.

The GX III 650W is made by Lite-On, which is trying to enter the desktop PSU market, making its debut with Cooler Master. Like the other family members, with capacities ranging from 650W to 1250W, it complies with ATX v3.0 and PCIe 5.0. The change to ATX v3.1 and PCIe 5.1 is small. All CM has to do is inform Lite-On to change the header on the PSU’s modular panel from 12VHPWR to 12V-2×6 since the corresponding cable remains unchanged.
The GX III 650 has Platinum efficiency in the Cybenetics scheme and a Cybenetics Standard++ (30-35 dB[A]) noise rating, which is pretty high given the PSU’s capacity and efficiency rating. CM informed me that its engineers will adjust all GX III models to make them less noisy. Once this is finished, Cybenetics will re-check all models and provide the new noise ratings.
The unit’s dimensions are standard for a 650W unit, with a depth of 160mm. Instead of the Hong Hua fan used in the higher-capacity GX III model, I found that CM used a mediocre Yate Loon fan in the 850W, 750W, and 650W members of the GX III family. I don’t like this change, and I am skeptical about whether this fan will be able to outlive the extended warranty.
