be quiet! Pure Power 13 M 1000W ATX v3.1 PSU Review

Epilogue

The new be quiet Pure Power 13 M, with a maximum capacity of 1000W, is one of the best units in the 1000W category and has the lowest average noise output. The difference in noise output between the previous model and this one is chaotic! Although the Pure Power 13 M 1000W focuses on both performance and affordability, it still manages to match the top-performing Corsair RM1000x eye-to-eye. Even if it rolls out at $180, its price difference with the Corsair RM1000e and the MSI MAG A1000GLS is not that high, while it beats them in overall performance while achieving way lower average noise output.

I can say that I am impressed by the flagship of the Pure Power 13 M line, and if it weren’t for the weird OCP settings on the minor rails, I would easily give it a recommended badge, even an editor’s choice. However, I decided a while ago not to provide any badges to PSUs that do not have correctly set protection features, until brands and manufacturers realize that this is one of the most critical sections. Things are not that bad in this unit, with the 12V rail and over power protection being set correctly; however, the minor rails still require attention. I would also like to see higher voltage levels at 12V under high transient loads, the insane ones that the PCI 5.1 CEM requires.

All in all, be quiet! The Pure Power 13 M 1000W is a really good PSU, worthy of your money if you’re after a high-performance and dead-silent product. Stay tuned for the reviews of the rest members of the family.

  1. The PowerZone has relatively loud transformer noise, even in standby. You can hear it from the next room. Otherwise, it’s electrically quiet — no coil whine or other weird stuff — but the base hum is quite loud. What about this one?

    1. Can you recommend a power supply that’s completely silent, even in standby? I’ve tested a few and ended up sticking with the PowerZone 2 because it’s a good all-rounder and gets a lot of things right. But that low hum or faint squeal drives me crazy. Every morning I wake up thinking, “Damn, I forgot to switch off the power strip again before going to bed
