Quick Tips #42: Fix Your Chair’s Gas Lift

Office (or gaming) chairs are essential, especially for individuals whose job requires them to spend hours in front of a computer. A good chair is not only a necessity but also an investment. Unfortunately, chairs are not forever. They get dirty or wear out, or their gas lift, especially on the budget ones, will eventually break. Gas lift sinking is one of the most common issues. While you can do pretty much nothing about other chairs’ issues (except replacing the wheels), there is a solution for the gas lift sinking. It is easy, convenient, and cost-effective. Welcome to Quick Tips #42: Fix Your Chair’s Gas Lift.

What You Need

  • Hose clamps, properly sized (depending on the case, you may need more than one; usually, one is adequate).
  • A proper screwdriver (for the hose clamp).
  • Patience, time, and some effort.

How To

  • Fix your chair’s gas lift in the proper position that suits your needs. Please note that this will be the permanent position from now on; please adjust accordingly.
Get the hose clamp and place it between the plastic area and the metal area of your gas lift. Usually, the plastic area is black, and the metal one is of light steel color. Place the hose clamp between the plastic and the metal area of the chair’s lift.
  • Once the hose clamp is inserted correctly in the right spot, screw it with the screwdriver until it reaches its edge. Insert additional hose clamps if needed.

That’s it! You can now enjoy your almost brand-new chair. The only caveat is that it will always be in a fixed position. But can it be much simpler, really?
