be quiet! Pure Power 12 M 850W PSU Review

Box & Bundle

The box has an elegant design, with the Vertex logo at its front. The package’s face also depicts the model number and information on the provided warranty. Packaging foam protects the PSU at the internals; all cables are stored in a nylon bag. The bundle is rich enough with Velcro straps, zip ties, a case badge, fixing bolts, and the necessary paperwork.

Product Photos

The PSU’s exterior design doesn’t stand out from the crowd. The perforations at the exhaust grille are small, restricting airflow, and on one of the sides, you can find the specifications label, which includes lots of information.

Cables

Modular Cables
Description Cable Count Connector Count (Total) Gauge In Cable Capacitors
ATX connector 20+4 pin (550mm) 1 1 16-20AWG No
4+4 pin EPS12V (600mm) 1 1 18AWG No
8-pin EPS12V (600mm) 1 1 18AWG No
6+2 pin PCIe (500mm+150mm) 2 4 16-18AWG No
12+4 pin PCIe (600mm) (600W) 1 1 16-28AWG No
SATA (500mm+150mm+150mm+150mm) 1 4 18AWG No
SATA (500mm+150mm) / 4-pin Molex (+150mm+150mm) 1 2 /2 18AWG No
AC Power Cord (1400mm) – C13 coupler 1 1 18AWG

Two EPS connectors on dedicated cables, four PCIe 6+2 pin on two cables, a single 12VHPWR set at 600W, 6x SATA, and only two 4-pin Molex connectors. The distance between the SATA and 4-pin Molex connectors is adequate, but I would like to see at least three 4-pin Molex connectors. Moreover, 50-100mm more on the ATX and EPS cables would be ideal.

  1. Aris, will you be doing a review of the be quiet! Straight Power 12? I’d like to buy the 850W version and I’d love to know your opinion of it.

    1. I should add that I also value customer service and RMA simplicity in Europe, tbh I only heard bad things about TT support and good things about be quiet, which could flip the balance even if TT GF3 is the better unit.

  2. Just a note on this PSU – the 24pin ATX Power Cable is only 550mm long so can be a very tight fit in a mid sized case like the Phanteks P600S.

  3. Hi aris, are these non japanese caps enough to discard the psu considering the overall performance? It’s the cheapest atx 3.0 psu in europe, rmx shift and toughpower gf3 are 50€ more expensive.

    1. If the price difference is that large, go for the be quiet! unit. These guys seem to trust it a lot, to give it such a long warranty, after all.

    2. Does this review apply to the 1000 watt version too? I’m not very knowledgeable so I don’t know if quality varies a lot between versions.

  4. I wish you could review the MSI MPG A850G PCIE5 psu which is the closest competitor in terms of price and specs.

  5. After having coil whine on Vertex Gx 1200 which i paid 350 EUROS i bought the Be quiet 12M 1000w 205 Euros for my rtx 4090 and there is no more coil whine or buzzing in sleep or idle.

Im happy with it for now.
