Corsair HS80 MAX Wireless Review

Test Methodology

To thoroughly test the HS80 MAX, we use the MiniDSP EARS (Earphone Audio Response System). It is a versatile measurement tool designed for audio enthusiasts, DIYers, and professionals who need a convenient and accurate way to measure and analyze sound. Equipped with two MEMS microphones, the MiniDSP EARS can capture binaural recordings, which mimic human hearing by recording sound as a person perceives it. This capability is handy for evaluating headphone performance and spatial audio effects, providing a more realistic assessment of audio equipment performance.

The device is designed to be compatible with various measurement and analysis software, including Room EQ Wizard (REW), which we use. Calibration is another crucial aspect of the MiniDSP EARS. The device comes with calibration files that ensure accurate measurements. Users can load these files into their analysis software to correct any deviations in the microphones’ responses, ensuring precision in the captured data. This attention to accuracy makes the miniDSP Hears suitable for various applications, including headphone testing, room acoustics analysis, and general audio measurements.

Room EQ Wizard (REW) is a powerful acoustic measurement and analysis software. It allows users to measure room acoustics, analyze speaker performance, and optimize sound systems. With its comprehensive features, REW enables users to generate detailed frequency response graphs, impulse responses, and other acoustic data. It supports various measurement devices and seamlessly interfaces with audio hardware like the MiniDSP EARS. REW is popular among audio enthusiasts and professionals for its accuracy, versatility, and depth of insight it provides into acoustic environments while being freely available.
