Wanbo X5 Projector Review

Basic Terms

What is ANSI Lumens? It is a standard measurement of projector brightness, which determines how bright the image will appear on the screen. This measurement is determined by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), which specifies the brightness level of a projector based on a specific test pattern. The ANSI lumen rating is the standard measurement because of its accuracy and reliability. It is also the most common way to compare different projectors when determining which is best for your needs. This method has been called the gold standard for measuring the brightness of a projector.

The resolution refers to the maximum number of pixels a projector can display. The ideal resolution depends on your screen size. The higher the resolution, the better the image will be. Nevertheless, you should not invest in a projector with less than 1080p HD resolution as this projector offers.

The contrast ratio measures the difference between white and black and contributes to the projected images’ colors. The zoom and lens ratio defines the range of screen sizes the projector is compatible with.

A Closer Look

The Wanbo X5 is equipped with a liquid crystal display (LCD). LCD projectors are in the middle among the DLP and LCoS ones. The LCD projectors are not as bright as DLP but offer a darker black and have less lag. The projection technology is how the light from the projector’s lamp is converted into an image to be projected onto a surface through the lens. The image is created by a liquid crystal panel that produces combinations of the three primary colors: red, green, and blue. This results in very good color performance, even in black.

The Wanbo’s X5 dimensions are 26,5 x 23,5 x 11,9 cm, weighing 3.020kg. Since the projector is quite large, it requires dedicated furniture space due to its substantial dimensions and weight. Nonetheless, its sleek pearlescent color with gold details will only boost a TV stand’s presence.

There are three buttons on the top side of the device: Power On/Off, a return button, and arrow keys with an ok button at its core.

At the rear, we came up with the input-output ports, which include a 3.5 mm audio jack to insert headphones, an AV interface and HDMI port, two USB ports, the power supply input, and the horn. We find the infrared receiving window at its front side other than the projector’s lens.

On both sides, there are heat dissipation air outlets; on one of its sides, there is an air inlet filter, which needs cleaning now and then.

On the projector’s bottom side is a double support frame, which assists in adjusting the projector’s height for better viewing angles. You can change the projector’s angle between 0 to 120 degrees.

I assume that due to the projector’s overall dimensions, it’s not feasible to place it on a tripod or hang it from the ceiling; therefore, you won’t find any tripod mounts on the projector’s body.

  2. You can mount it, I believe. Beneath the rubber pads on the bottom there are screw holes, I think?

  3. Hello, I want to ask how it is from the focus distance. I would like to know if the projector is placed more than 4 meters, whether the image will be well focused or not. The manufacturer sells 1.3-4 meters. I want to place the projector more than 4 meters away, so it won’t be a problem and the image will be blurry. Thank you and have a nice day. 🙂

  4. Hello, contrary to what is advertised, it is possible to attach the X5 to a projector: simply peel off the rubber pads under the device to reveal tapped holes.

        1. I had a call with Netflix support and told me that i cannot stream Netflix on a projector. I changed the password but still it didn’t work. Very nice projector but i cannot use it if i dont have access to streaming services. I will return it by the end of the week. Tried to update the firmware but the zip files on the company’s site were empty.

  5. What does HD 1080p means?
The review says it is native 1080p, although the end says it is HD only.
