SilverStone Shark Force 140 ARGB Fan Review

Epilogue

The SilverStone Shark Force 140 ARGB achieves high airflow and static pressure, but its “shark” fins don’t help in noise output at low and mid speeds, and this is shown in the normalized noise results where the Shark Force fan is at the lowest places when it comes to RPM. When other fans produce the same noise output at higher speeds, they have better-designed blades, producing less noise. The fan’s performance in normalized noise tests is high despite the lower RPM, achieving first place in static pressure at 30 dBA, with a high difference from the second.

The fully modular cable design is an asset, but I prefer a more straightforward daisy chain option, such as the Seasonic MagFlow. ARGB lighting, which increases the number of cables and connectors, complicates the matter of daisy-chaining fans. You don’t have many options unless you follow a sophisticated (and expensive) method like Corsair’s. Moreover, I didn’t see any gains in noise output with the “Shark” blades. On the contrary, they seem to increase noise output. SilverStone must improve the design for lower noise while ensuring performance doesn’t get a hit. Another major downside is the high price of this product, close to 30 dollars. I don’t have many 140mm fans in my database because I mostly focused on the 120mm category, which is more popular, but give me some time to increase the number of tested products. If you need higher static pressure, you should look into 120mm fans and, more specifically, the Phanteks T30-120 and the Super Flower Megacool.

Pros:
  • High airflow and static pressure (for this category’s standards)
  • Daisy chain option
  • Wide fan speed control range (200 – 2153 RPM)
  • Fluid dynamic bearing for increased lifetime
  • PWM control
  • ARGB lighting
Cons:
  • Expensive
  • Increased power consumption
  • The fan blade design doesn’t seem to suppress noise output at low and mid-speeds
  • 1-year warranty
