Montech AX140 PWM Fan Review

Epilogue

The Montech AX140 PWM is a mediocre fan, even at the current highly affordable price tag of 15 dollars. Because of its ineffective noise design, it operates at low speeds in the noise-normalized tests, so its performance is low, especially under static pressure. In general, this fan doesn’t do well in static pressure, so I wouldn’t recommend using it in cooling solutions, but only in applications where airflow matters more.

If you don’t need RGB lighting and don’t want to pay much money, you should go with the Arctic P14 PWM PST CO, which delivers about the same airflow but has a way higher static pressure. If you only want a fan for your chassis, static pressure is unimportant; you could go with the Montech fan to utilize its RGB lighting and make your chassis look nicer.

As in the Montech AX120 PWM, this one doesn’t use a hydro dynamic bearing, but a rifle bearing. Not that a rifle bearing is good; it is a significant upgrade from a rifle bearing, but it is not as good as a hydrodynamic one. So, I suggest Montech change the product’s description to avoid confusion and possibly misleading future buyers of this product.

Pros:
  • Affordable
  • Decent build quality
  • PWM control
  • ARGB lighting
Cons:
  • Rifle bearing and not HDB (as advertised)
  • Low static pressure (huge deviation from the claimed performance)
  • There is a high difference between the actual and measured airflow
  • No Daisy-chain option
