The Cooler Master V1600 Platinum V2 is a Cybenetics Platinum PSU with compact dimensions thanks to its restricted depth of 160mm. Usually similar capacity PSUs have increased depth at 180mm or more to use larger PCBs and heatsinks, which allow for more relaxed fan speed profiles.
The Cooler Master V1600 Platinum V2 is (or will be) included in my best ATX v3.x & PCIe 5.x PSU picks article.
Cooler Master’s V line of PSUs consists of three members, with max power of 1100W, 1300W, and 1600W. In today’s review, I will evaluate the flagship of the line, which at the time of the evaluation costs $310, which is a decent price for its capacity. Other similar capacity PSUs, such as the Seasonic Prime PX-1600 and the Corsair AX1600i, cost way more, but nonetheless, I will use them for comparison purposes.
The V1600 Platinum V2 promises quiet operation thanks to its Mobius fan and zero fan speed, but its Cybenetics Standard++ noise rating does not reflect this. Typically, quiet PSUs have Cybenetics-A noise ratings or better. Cooler Master also talks about its purple anodic-coated heat sinks, which improve heat dissipation thanks to their design. This might be the case, but to remove the hot air fast, you need the fan to spin fast enough. Thanks to the deep cuts on the heat sinks in this PSU, CM claims that the temperature gain reaches 5.2°C.
