The Thermaltake TOUGHFAN 12 Pro is a quality and expensive fan ($25 from TT’s store and on Amazon). According to its maker, this fan can offer strong airflow and high static pressure, so it is suitable for both chassis and cooling applications. The official specs claim only 22.6 dBA maximum noise output, which is tough to swallow for a 2000 RPM fan, so I will have to verify that with my equipment. Embedded into the fan’s chassis, anti-vibration rubber pads dampen the fan’s vibrations, lowering its noise output.
This fan uses a 2nd generation hydraulic bearing with a new shaft design that allows more lubricant to remain on both sides, increasing the fan’s lifetime while decreasing its noise output.
The small gap between the fan’s blades and the chassis (tip clearance) reduces airflow leakage, improving the fan’s performance. This requires tight control during the manufacturing process.
