XPG Core Reactor II VE 650W PSU Review

Box & Bundle

I got an early sample without the retail packaging, so I only have to show you a photo of the provided cables.

Product Photos

The PSU is compact, with only 140mm depth. The fan grille is not restricted, using the same design as the non-VE models. On the front side, you will only find the AC receptacle and the power switch since there is no semi-passive mode; hence, there is no need for a corresponding switch. I have to say here that I agree with XPG’s decision to ditch the semi-passive operation since it is way better to have the fan spinning at low speeds under light loads, without making any noise, rather than starting at higher speeds, making its presence felt.

Cables

Modular Cables
Description Cable Count Connector Count (Total) Gauge In Cable Capacitors
ATX connector 20+4 pin (650mm) 1 1 18AWG No
4+4 pin EPS12V (750mm) 2 2 18AWG No
6+2 pin PCIe (550mm) 2 2 18AWG No
12+4 pin PCIe (600mm) (600W) 1 1 16-24AWG No
SATA (440mm+150mm+150mm) / 4-pin Molex (+150mm) 2 6 / 2 18AWG No
AC Power Cord (1380mm) – C13 coupler 1 1 18AWG

The VE edition has fewer cables than the non-VE. Still, the provided cables are enough to deliver the PSU’s full power without any issues. All cables are flat and stealthy, and no in-cable caps are used, which is the preferred method.

The 600W setting of the 12+4 pin connector is overkill! It should normally be set at 300W.
