Epilogue
The Nvidia GeForce RTX 4060 8 GB costs 100 dollars less than the RTX 4060 Ti with the same amount of RAM. With $300 you get a decent graphics card, for HD gaming, which is notably stronger, especially with RTX enabled, than AMD’s RX 7600 which costs 30 dollars less. If you want a stronger HD performance, you should look at the RTX 4060 Ti, using the AD106 GPU instead of the AD107 used in the RTX 4060. In all resolutions, with and without RTX enabled you should expect a 20-25% performance difference between the RTX 4060 and the RTX 4060 Ti.
The AD107 GPU, built at 5nm, supports all features of the Ada architecture, including the DLSS 3 Frame Generation which provides a huge performance boost. Moreover, the Galax GeForce RTX 4060 EX White comes overclocked from the factory with 105MHz higher boost clocks. There is room for more overclock, especially in VRAM, and the total gain I achieved is 11.33%, which is high enough. The AD107 might not be as efficient as the AD106, but it still scores high, and it is more efficient than the Navi 33 XL than the AMD RX 7600.
The RTX 4060 doesn’t offer a performance boost over the RTX 3060 Ti, but it is notably faster than the RTX 3060. Compared to the 30-dollar less expensive RX 7600, the RTX 4060 is around 5-6% faster with RTX disabled. With RTX disabled AMD’s affordable solution doesn’t stand a chance, staying 30-35% behind! Moreover, with DLSS 3 enabled, you can easily play the Cyberpunk 2077 title at QHD and the RTX Ultra preset enabled. This is amazing, given that the RTX 4060 is the most affordable 4000 series card and this game is demanding.
Despite the higher boost clocks, the good cooling system, and the RGB fans, Galax kept the price of the RTX 4060 EX at the MSRP level. This is good news because for $300 the NVIDIA RTX 4060 is not as affordable as I expected. A decent price would be around 250 dollars, but unfortunately, everything got more expensive in recent years. I am tired of hearing all the time that “prices went up.” I wish I could hear for once the opposite! Although you can find stronger older generation cards at the same price or even lower, I suggest you stick to the RTX 4000 series because of DLSS3, which is only compatible with the new silicon, providing a huge performance boost, especially with RTX enabled.
The Galax RTX 4060 EX is a fine card for HD gaming, which however would be even better with a more relaxed fan speed profile. It can even handle QHD gaming if you drop the graphics quality a bit.
