Epilogue
The XPG HURRICANE MAG 120 ARGB boasts several interesting features, such as the magnetic daisy chain and reverse function, but its performance falls short of expectations. Especially in its reverse function, the alleged static pressure readings are completely off, and to make matters worse, the output noise goes through the roof. The only functionality in this reverse mode is to remove dust from the chassis during cleaning, and that’s it. I don’t recommend having these particular fans in reverse operation permanently because you will lose performance, especially in static pressure, while noise will be increased. Lastly, I noticed increased noise output at both regular and reverse operation at 30% and 70% of the fan’s maximum speed.
At the time of the review, I couldn’t find any price information about this product. XPG will likely target mid-fan category prices, given the rifle bearing.
Let’s now look at 25 dBA noise-normalized performance. I chose 25 dBA because it strikes a balance between being low enough not to annoy most users and high enough to allow for speeds that offer decent airflow and static pressure performance.
At 25 dBA, the fan’s airflow is low at both normal and reverse operation. At regular operation, the static pressure is close to the average in the 120mm category, but still not impressive, while it is dead low in reverse operation.
