Epilogue
The Montech GF120 ARGB PWM is priced reasonably, especially in the 3-pack, considering its specs, ARGB lighting, and the included hub. It also offers high airflow, earning a Cybenetics Titanium rating. On the other hand, its static pressure is low, so this fan is not suitable for use in radiators and heat sinks, especially those with dense fins. Thanks to its high airflow, this fan is mainly for use in chassis, to remove the hot air out of their internals.
Let’s now look at 25 dBA noise-normalized performance. I chose 25 dBA because it is low enough not to annoy most users and high enough to allow for speeds that offer decent airflow and static pressure performance.
At 25 dBA, the fan’s airflow is among the best, while its static pressure is among the lowest. One of the best performance-per-price fans, the Arctic P12 Pro, achieves “only” 43.72 CFM at 25 dBA, so it doesn’t pose a threat to the GF120. On the other hand, though, the Arctic P12 Pro puts the GF120 to shame in static pressure, with an impressive 2.6 mmH2O performance.
I can say that the direct competitor for the GF120 is the Phanteks M25-120 G2, which at 25 dBA achieves a performance 3 CFM lower, but in terms of static pressure, it is ahead by 0.3 mmH2O. The triple pack of M25-120 G2 ARGB fans costs $37, making it more expensive than the respective Montech pack. However, the M25-120 features a significantly better daisy-chain implementation and a single cable connection, resulting in less cable clutter inside the chassis.
