Hyte THICC FP12 120mm Fan Review – The NEW Performance King!

The Hyte THICC FP12 offer digital processor cooling, as their maker claims, meaning that they are controlled by specialized hardware and not a plain mainboard header. The performance of the FP12 is fantastic but you should keep in mind that its thickness is notably higher than the standard, which is 25mm, at 32mm. 

Hyte introduced something similar to the Corsair iCUE ecosystem with its Nexus Link ecosystem. According to the brand, the Nexus Link ecosystem aims to deliver a simple, smart, and scalable solution by utilizing a digital hardware interface that combines power, cooling, lighting, and sensor data into a single cable. If the price is lower than that of Corsair iCUE-relevant products, it will attract more users.

Nexus Link devices connect as a Sequential Node Network. Within the Nexus Link Ecosystem, THICC Q60 and Nexus Portal NP50 operate as primary nodes while THICC FP12 Fans and LS10 and LS30 qRGB Light Strips operate as secondary nodes. Every node in the network is equipped with its own microcontroller, enabling two-way communication (duplex) between the HYTE Nexus software and Nexus Link hardware nodes.

Nexus Link consists of two interfaces: Nexus Link Type-C, used to connect nodes via cable, and Nexus Link Type-M, used to magnetically connect nodes directly to one another. Legacy PWM fan control is also supported by Nexus Link with optional breakout cables.

Nexus Link AmpScale manages the network expansion of the Nexus Link ecosystem. This real-time algorithm monitors the number of system network devices and protects controllers from overcurrent. AmpScale automatically recalculates and distributes the available current for expanded power delivery and alerts users when capacity needs to be adjusted.

After explaining the basic terms of the Nexus Link ecosystem, let’s examine the THICC FP12 performance fans, one of which I will evaluate in this review. These fans can be connected via Nexus Link Type-M channels or a legacy 4-pin PWM channel, allowing you to utilize any of the existing controllers of your mainboard headers. Their thickness is increased to 32mm, and Hyte states that they can be used either as case fans or for cooling solutions. This means that they have both high airflow and static pressure. The FP12 fans contain a thermal and positioning sensor and come with a zero RPM mode to minimize noise output when the thermal loads are low.

  1. Really think you need to test the lian li p28 at this point. Can be had for under $15 regularly (bought mine for ~$12 a piece) and seems to have some rest performance.
    Not gonna lie, had higher hopes for these hyte fans. Considering T30s have come down in price this makes it a tough sell.

    I would also like to see test results for the Lian Li P28 120mm fan. I am curious to find out how the P28 fan compares to the other Lian Li fans you already tested. This morning the P28 is available in the USA for $12.99 USD.

    Does your equipment allow you to test larger fans? The Lian Li, Lancool, 216 series case that I ordered yesterday comes with two of the new 160mm fans installed in the front panel. The top panel of the 216 models is interesting in that the panel contains the usual slots for mounting either 120mm or 140mm case fans. That is fairly common. However, it also has a 3rd row of slots so the new 160mm fan can be mounted in the top panel. I started searching online and found an official Lian Li store at a well known Asian website. I purchased one 160mm fan for $7.99 USD. Later in the day I found a link to a vendor in the USA selling the 160mm fan for $14.00. The specifications look very good.

    1. IMPORTANT CORRECTION!
      The Lian Li 160mm fan arrived this morning and the Lian Li 216 case arrived this afternoon. The 160mm fan will not fit in the top of the Lian Li 216 case. The fan slots in the top of the case are for 120mm, 130mm, and 140mm fans. First, I measured the slots and determined the fan slots are for 120mm, 130mm, and 140mm fans. Then I took a 120mm fan and a 140mm fan from a box of spare parts and verified the measurements. The 160mm fan is actually 170mm. This also means information in a video review I watched was incorrect. I went back and watched the video again just to make sure. I was disappointed. I now have a spare 160mm fan that I bought for $7.99 USD.
