Hardinfo: The Best App For Linux System Monitoring & Benchmarking

Linux distros have been quite popular among tech enthusiasts since the Kernel’s early days—and for good reason, if you ask me. Ever since, more user-friendly distros “invaded” the “game,” and Linux options gained even more popularity. We should not forget that Linux is more versatile and lightweight than Windows due to its nature. Just think about how many old or “incompetent” systems you may revitalize using a light distro or a user-friendly one. Yes, that’s the spirit. But what about System information in a well-organized GUI and even benchmarking it? Windows excels in this category, and tools such as HWiNFO, etc., are almost necessary for the tech-savvy ones. Fortunately, Hardinfo (short for hardware information) and its successor Hardinfo2, are here to save the Linux day. Let’s see how we can install and use this convenient tool. Go, Linux Team!

How To

  1. The easiest method by far, especially for noobs, is their distro’s Store/Market. Just visit the App Store and type in the search bar Hardinfo. When it appears, choose “install.” After installation is complete, search for the app by typing its name. Unfortunately, depending on the distro, Hardinfo2 is not available, and you can only find the old version, which is more than enough for the average user. Honestly, you won’t need more than that.
  2. Visit the Hardinfo GitHub releases page and download the binary ( .deb or .rpm ) that suits your distro. Then, install it by right-clicking on it (in the directory where it was downloaded) and choosing install, package manager, GDebi, etc.
  3. Visit the Hardinfo GitHub releases page and download the binary ( .deb or .rpm ) that suits your distro. Navigate to the downloaded file’s directory and open the “Terminal” there. Copy the file’s name and paste it on the “Terminal” after the sudo apt install command (e.g., sudo apt install “directory/file name”) and press the “Enter” key. Wait for the process to complete.
  4. Compile and install Hardinfo/2 by source.

How To Use It

Using Hardinfo/2 is pretty simple. Just find the app on your system menu or type it in the search bar to appear, and launch it. The app will open, and you can find all the necessary information (hardware and software) and sensors in a convenient graphical structure. Additionally, in the “Benchmarks” section, you can run some benchmarks to evaluate your system. Hardinfo/2 is the perfect companion for any Linux enthusiast. Just go the Hardinfo/2 way already.
