Seasonic Focus GX-850 V4 ATX v3.1 PSU Review

Box & Bundle

Strangely enough, the box doesn’t have a photo of the PSU on its front side. Only the model description and a mention of the ten-year warranty.

Product Photos

The PSU’s small dimensions and the unique design of the fan grille make an appealing combination. On the PSU’s front side, you will find the AC receptacle, the power switch, and another switch to toggle on/off the fan’s semi-passive operation. Around the back, the modular panel has eleven sockets, including a native 12V-2×6 one.

Cables

Modular Cables
Description Cable Count Connector Count (Total) Gauge In Cable Capacitors
ATX connector 20+4 pin (610mm) 1 1 16-18AWG No
4+4 pin EPS12V (750mm) 2 2 16AWG No
6+2 pin PCIe (750mm) 3 3 16-18AWG No
12+4 pin PCIe (700mm) (600W) 1 1 16-24AWG No
SATA (500mm+150mm+150mm+150mm) 2 8 18AWG No
4-pin Molex (450mm+120mm+120mm) 1 3 18AWG No

The amount of cables is sufficient, and the same goes for their length. The available connectors include two EPS, three PCIe 6+2 pins on dedicated cables, and a single 12V-2×6 cable with the PSU’s setting for 600W. According to Intel’s test plan, it should be at 300W, but most manufacturers go for full power on this cable. The EPS and PCIe connectors mostly use 16AWG gauges for lower voltage drops.

The number of peripheral connectors is sufficient, and the distance between the SATA connectors is adequate. On the contrary, the 4-pin Molex connectors are relatively close to each other.
