There is no passive operation for the fan, but this is not what you should be worried about. The increased fan speed from the start should alarm future owners of this PSU, since it starts at over 30 dBA. With more than 525W, the fan’s noise goes over 35 dBA, and with 700W and higher loads, you will be treated to more than 40 dBA. Apparently, this PSU is not for the average user who needs a silent PSU.
