Montech Titan PLA 1200W ATX v3.1 PSU Review

Box & Bundle (or something else..)

The PSU didn’t come in a retail box, so here is a photo of a sleepy alligator. He is alive (there was a sign confirming that!) just bored to death.

Product Photos

The PSU also comes in white so it will be the ideal choice for users with a similar color chassis. The fan grille is not restrictive at all. It barely protects the fan, so you should be careful not to have loose cables near it, which can stop the fan’s operation. Besides the typical AC receptacle and the power switch, we find a push button on the front side for toggling on/off the PSU’s semi-passive operation.

Around the back, the modular panel includes 13x sockets, one of which is 12V-2×6 type, so this is a “true” ATX v3.1 PSU.

Cables

Modular Cables
Description Cable Count Connector Count (Total) Gauge In Cable Capacitors
ATX connector 20+4 pin (615mm) 1 1 16-18AWG No
4+4 pin EPS12V (710mm) 2 2 16AWG No
6+2 pin PCIe (760mm) 3 3 16-18AWG No
12+4 pin PCIe (760mm) (600W) 1 1 16-28AWG No
SATA 3.3 (410mm+160mm) 2 4 18AWG No
SATA (510mm+160mm+160mm+160mm) 2 8 18AWG No
4-pin Molex (510mm+160mm+160mm+160mm) 1 4 18AWG Νο

The amount of peripheral connectors is more than enough, with the SATA connectors reaching a dozen. I don’t believe many users will utilize all of these connectors, with most mainboards supporting several NVMe drives with increased capacities. Most users nowadays don’t even install SSD/HDD drivers in their systems. If you want storage space, investing in a NAS or an external HDD is better than having an extra heat source inside your PC, especially if this is a plain HDD drive.

Three dedicated PCIe 6+2 pin cables/connectors and a high-power one, set at 600W. The number (2x) of EPS connectors is standard for high-power PSUs, and both are installed on dedicated cables, which is the only way. Lastly, all cables are extra long, and the distance between the peripheral connectors is adequate.

  1. Would you consider reviewing some of the sama psus like black diamond, black hole, XP, and even the new upcoming GT series? When they’re in stock they’re at incredible prices, and my buddy who’s working on a psu database says some of their electrical performance is debatably a tier.

  2. Are there any notable safety concerns when using this as compared to a better reviewed 1200W-1300W PSU with a MSI RTX 5090 SUPRIM SOC?

I already purchased this PSU (felt it was good as it is a Seasonic OEM and there are also very few white PSUs at >1200W)

However I am now concerned after reading the cons listed in this review, and might switch to the [ASRock Taichi TC-1300T] or [Lian Li Edge Gold/Plat 1200W/1300W] if it would improve safety levels

    1. Look at the protection features table, everything you need to know is on this page.

I liked the Taichi units, FSP is trying hard to make them highly competitive.
