Cooler Master V1600 Platinum V2 ATX v3.1 PSU Review

Box & Bundle (or something else..)

The box has a vivid graphics design that attracts attention. At the front, it makes clear that this is an ATX v3.1 and PCIe 5.1 compliant PSU. A photo of the product also shows its compact size. Inside the box, besides the PSU and the relevant paperwork, you will also find a bag containing all cables, which are far too many, so it is good to have a bag to store the unused ones. At some point, brands should consider providing only the necessary cables to minimize the cost, with users ordering additional ones if needed. This way we will have way fewer wasted cables, which increase the production cost and consume valuable resources.

The first thing that leaves an impression is the compact dimensions. If you are not used to modern PSUs and the downsize trend, you will probably think this is an 850W unit or 1000W max, not a 1600W beast. The second interesting design choice is the purple strip passing through the fan’s grille. Of course, it is just a “looks” thing, affecting the fan’s airflow slightly simultaneously. I would prefer it weren’t there.

The modular panel around the back includes 15 sockets, two of which are of the 12V-2×6 type.

AC Power Cord (1380mm) – C19 coupler 1 1 16AWG

Given the high max power of this PSU, it is expected to have many cables and connectors. Nonetheless, I am unsure who will utilize 16 SATA connectors! I think it is high time brands started reducing the number of peripheral cables, even in high-capacity PSUs, and made optional cable kits available for users who will need/use them.

There are two EPS, five dedicated PCIe 6+2 pin cables/connectors, and two high-power ones, set at 600W. Even for a 1600W PSU, two 12V-2×6 cables with the PSU’s respective connectors set at 600W can be overkill, but it is less complicated to do it like that.

All cables are pretty long, except those holding the 6+2-pin PCIe connectors. The distance between the peripheral connectors should be greater. Lastly, the high-power cables use thicker gauges for lower voltage drops.
