Chieftec VEGA M 850W ATX v3.1 PSU Review

Box & Bundle

The box features a photo of the product on its front, accompanied by several small badges that depict various features. Internally, the protection is good, with packing foam surrounding the PSU.

The exterior design is interesting, thanks to the punched fan grill, which allows for good airflow due to its large perforations. The power specifications label is on the bottom side, covering most of the space there.

The modular panel has nine sockets, including a native 12V-2×6 header.

Modular Cables
Description Cable Count Connector Count (Total) Gauge Cable Type
ATX connector 24 pin (600mm) 1 1 18AWG Tinned Copper
8 pin EPS12V (650mm) / 4+4 pin EPS12V (+150mm) 1 1 / 1 18AWG Tinned Copper
6+2 pin PCIe (650mm+150mm) 2 4 18AWG Tinned Copper
12+4 pin PCIe (610mm) (600W) 1 1 16-24AWG Tinned Copper
SATA (400mm+155mm+155mm) 2 6 18AWG Tinned Copper
4-pin Molex (400mm+155mm+155mm) 1 3 18AWG Tinned Copper
AC Power Cord (1370mm) – C13 coupler 1 1 16AWG

The cables are long enough, but unfortunately, it is not good to see dual EPS connectors on a single cable, especially with 16AWG gauges up to the first connector. These connectors can draw a lot of power, so having a pair of them on the same cable is a hazardous idea.

The number of peripheral connectors is sufficient, and the distance between them is sufficiently high.

It is great to see all cables using the proper conductor (tinned copper) and not the cheap Copper-Clad Aluminum (CCA) solution.
