be quiet! Dark Power 14 1000W ATX v3.1 PSU Review

Average Noise

The PSU’s average noise output is dead low. The Dark Power 13 with a similar capacity was quiet, but the new one is dead silent!

Fan Noise & Speed Maps @ 28-32 °C – 115V

The fan’s passive operation lasts for a long time. Typically, a CWT platform is affected by load on the minor rails, but the fan’s noise never rises above 10 dB, even with combined loads at 120W on the minor rails and with the 12V rail up to 710W. Up to around 890W at 12V, the PSU is dead silent, for a period after that the fan’s noise goes up to 25 dBA, and then with higher loads (>940W @ 12V) it drops again in the 15-20 dBA range!

All in all, the fan speed profile is highly relaxed and won’t annoy users even at higher loads.

At 230V, the fan’s passive operation lasts longer.
