Apple is reportedly gearing up to launch a wholly redesigned Magic Mouse, with industry rumors pointing toward improved ergonomics, gesture support, and even built-in voice controls. If true, these changes could mark a significant evolution for the accessory, which has long been criticized for its outdated design and the famously awkward placement of its charging port. Mark Gurman from Bloomberg recently revealed that Apple is actively working on an overhauled Magic Mouse, which may hit the market within 12 to 18 months. A significant highlight of the redesign? Moving the USB-C charging port to a more practical location. For years, the charging port’s placement on the bottom of the mouse has been a running joke among users and tech critics.
However, the redesign doesn’t stop at aesthetics or usability. Korean leaker “yeux1222” has hinted that Apple may be experimenting with prototypes of the Magic Mouse that include voice control, advanced gesture recognition, and enhanced touch capabilities. The leaker suggests that voice controls could link to AI-based features on macOS, potentially leveraging Apple’s anticipated upgrades to Siri, which will reportedly include a next-gen large language model (LLM).
AI and Accessibility in Focus
If implemented, voice controls would make perfect sense in light of Apple’s broader push into AI and accessibility. According to Gurman, any voice control functionality would act as a receiver, with processing handled on the connected Mac rather than directly on the mouse itself. This would integrate seamlessly with AI utilities, particularly as Apple seeks to position Siri as a more innovative alternative to ChatGPT and other conversational AI platforms. Gesture support is also expected to play a more significant role. Apple already offers gesture-based navigation using the current Magic Mouse. Still, analysts anticipate these features could become more robust, aligning the device with the ergonomics and usability of leading competitors like Logitech’s MX Master.
A New Magic Keyboard to Match?
While Apple hasn’t officially confirmed the redesigned Magic Mouse, analysts believe it might launch a revamped Magic Keyboard. These updates would better serve Apple’s growing AI and productivity tools ecosystem.
