The AM5 family gets two new chipset additions, the X870E and X870, with the first being the top tier one. They bring along DDR5 support with EXPO, PCIe 5.0 (for both GPUs and NVMes) and USB 4.0 as standard, as well as fast Wi-Fi options.
X870E boards will come equipped with 2 Promontory 21 chips, versus the single chip found in the non-E variant, affecting only the number of PCIe lanes and not the I/O. They also support DDR5 memory speeds starting from 5600 MT/s and reach over 8000MT/s, and can be paired with AMD Ryzen™ 9000, 8000, and 7000 Series processors.
The new AGESA update that promised to fixed the latency issues for the 9000 CPU series, is also available for the 870 boards.
This is great news, following the rumored release of the X3D variants for the Ryzen 9000 Series CPUs, at the end of next month.

Next year, we expect the release of the B850 and B840 boards. The same Promontory 21 dies, although without native USB4 connectivity, will be found on the AMD B850 motherboards, while PCIe5.0 M.2 will be optional. The B840 boards will completely lack PCI5.0 support, as they will utilize the older Promontory 19 die, positioned in the market as a budget option. Lastly, the A6XX series boards will keep serving as an entry-level option.
