The PlayStation PS5 Pro was announced today, but its price will probably make you want to scream, especially if you live in Europe!
The PS5 Pro will launch on Nov. 7 and retail at $700. Its predecessor, PS5, launched in November 2020, cost $500, with a digital-only edition for $400. The PS5 Pro preorders begin Sept. 26.
The PS5 Pro has a better GPU, advanced ray-tracing capabilities, and AI-driven upscaling.
- Upgraded GPU: With PS5 Pro, we are upgrading to a GPU with 67% more Compute Units than the current PS5 console and 28% faster memory. Overall, this enables up to 45% faster rendering for gameplay, making the experience much smoother.
- Advanced Ray Tracing: We’ve added even more powerful ray tracing that provides more dynamic reflection and refraction of light. This allows the rays to be cast at double, and at times triple, the speeds of the current PS5 console.
- AI-Driven Upscaling: We’re also introducing PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution. This AI-driven upscaling uses machine learning-based technology to provide super-sharp image clarity by adding an extraordinary amount of detail.
The console also has the PS5 Pro Game Boost, which PlayStation says will apply to “more than 8,500 backward compatible PS4 games playable on PS5 Pro”.
PlayStation mentions that several games will be patched with free software updates and marked with a “PS5 Pro Enhanced” label. Optimized games include:
- Alan Wake 2
- Assassin’s Creed: Shadows
- Demon’s Souls
- Dragon’s Dogma 2
- Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth
- Gran Turismo 7
- Hogwarts Legacy
- Horizon Forbidden West
- Marvel’s Spider-Man 2
- Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart
- The Crew Motorfest
- The First Descendant
- The Last of Us Part II Remastered
The PS5 Pro will have a 2TB SSD, a DualSense wireless controller, and a copy of “Astro’s Playroom” pre-installed. The device is a discless console, and the PS5 disc drive can be purchased separately at $100. A stand for the console will also be sold separately at $25.
The new PS5 Pro is equal in height to the original PS5 and the same in width as the current “slim” edition of the PS5 model. Finally, all current PS5 accessories, such as PlayStation VR2, PlayStation Portal, DualSense Edge, Access controller, Pulse Elite, and Pulse Explore, will be compatible with the PS5 Pro. Moreover, the user interface and network services will remain the same.
Got the PS5 Slim with the optical disc reader for 460€ in early 2024 on Amazon.
We are looking at 920€ in EU for the PS5 Pro Disc…
I will wait until 07/2025~ for Monster Hunter Wilds and GTA6 with a massive price drop and better hardware version. I don’t want to end up like the early buyers on the PS5 with poor heatsink etc.
Sony going hard to recoup the Concord crash last week.
