ONEXSUGAR: A Transforming Handheld for Fans of the Nintendo DS!

Introducing the **OneXSugar**, the latest innovation in portable gaming, powered by Qualcomm’s cutting-edge G3 Gen 3 chip. What sets this device apart? It transforms! The **ONEXSUGAR** is redefining what handheld gaming can be with its dual-screen setup: a vibrant 6.01-inch main display and a nifty 3.92-inch secondary screen. This genius design allows gamers to switch between large-screen, small-screen, and dual-screen modes on the fly, offering unparalleled flexibility for competitive play and casual sessions.

Powerful Performance with Snapdragon G3 Gen 3

At the heart of the **SUGAR 1** is the Snapdragon G3 Gen 3 processor, sporting an 8-core Kryo CPU, an Adreno A32 GPU capable of ray tracing, and FastConnect 7800 for blazing-fast WiFi 7 connectivity. This means you can dive into Android games, cloud gaming, and retro titles without a hitch!

Switch It Up for a Custom Gaming Experience

Want to enjoy classic 3DS-style gameplay? The dual-screen setup has you covered. Do you prefer a more traditional handheld experience? Just fold the arms back to access the main screen. The ONEXSUGAR seamlessly adapts to any game style you throw at it!

When I first heard about a handheld that could morph into a Transformer, I didn’t expect to see something resembling a Nintendo DS that can convert into a standard 6-inch gaming device. The OneXSugar Sugar 1 from OneXPlayer aims to be the Optimus Prime of retro handhelds, and fingers crossed; it doesn’t turn out to be as pricey and annoying as Starscream.

This Android-based device can mimic the look of a Nintendo DS, but if you prefer a more classic layout, unlatch and fold the two side arms into place. A video with its announcement showcases how the controller hinges attach via USB-C ports on the sides, and the top screen folds back, giving you a nice, compact setup.

Handhelds in Disguise

While it’s not a clamshell-like the Nintendo DS, the Sugar 1 still packs a dual-screen punch for enjoying games from Nintendo’s original touchscreen handheld. It’s perfect for DS or 3DS emulation, though keep in mind it won’t be a complete one-to-one match since it boasts a 6-inch primary display alongside a 3.92-inch second screen. For reference, the largest Nintendo 3DS XL had a 4.88-inch display.

Hardware That Packs a Punch

Its Qualcomm G3 Gen 3 chip is a key feature specifically designed for Android handhelds. This powerhouse includes a prime core, five performance cores, and two efficiency cores—30% faster than previous models. Plus, with WiFi 7 and Bluetooth 5.3 support, connectivity is top-notch.

The G3 powers the upgraded Adreno A32 GPU, enabling stunning QHD+ visuals at 144 Hz refresh rates. Although we don’t have all the specs yet, such as RAM and storage, Qualcomm designed this processor with Unreal Engine 5 ray tracing in mind, which bodes well for future gaming experiences.

Competition Is Heating Up

Of course, the OneXSugar will face competition from other dual-screen devices. Recently, Ayaneo has been promoting its Flip DS running Windows, and despite some initial confusion about its production, it’s still on track to fulfill orders. If you’re looking for something budget-friendly, check out the Retroid Pocket Flip 2 at $230, or grab a used 3DS and hack it for pure DS emulation—although we know most gamers aren’t keen on the extra hassle.

If you want your handheld to stand apart from heavyweights like the Steam Deck or Asus Ally X, you’ll need to embrace the unconventional—and that’s exactly what the Sugar 1 does. OneXPlayer’s previous handheld, the 8.8-inch X1 Mini, resembled a tablet with detachable controllers and even swappable SSDs. However, since it starts at over $1,000, let’s hope the Sugar 1 comes at a more wallet-friendly price!

Join the Adventure!

One thing to note: the OneXSugar isn’t hitting shelves just yet. The company is launching it through an Indiegogo campaign. While we always advise caution when backing unproven tech, OneXPlayer has a solid track record of fulfilling orders shortly after crowdfunding ends. Stay tuned, gamers!
