On Monday, Apple unveiled the first version of Apple Intelligence, which includes features to improve Siri, automatically create emails and images, and sort notifications.

This new software has been released in the iOS 18.1 developer beta, and one version is also available for iPad and Mac. However, for the time being, it is only available to registered Apple developers for $99 a year. Even though the company revealed Apple Intelligence at its Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC) in June, the first set of developer beta and public beta releases didn’t have any Apple Intelligence features.

The rollout of iOS 18.1 is quite limited. Apple said in June that users with iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, iPads, and Macs that run on M1 chips could try out Apple Intelligence features in beta if their device language was set to U.S. English. However, according to users, you also need to place your device region in the US. Nevertheless, after the update, users will have to join a waiting list within Apple’s Settings app to access the service, which involves pinging Apple’s servers for more complex requests.

Apple Intelligence software includes the following features:

  • Apple’s text creation service. Users can proofread or rewrite text and change the tone of a passage via three options: “Friendly,” “Professional,” and “Concise.” The tools can also turn passages of text into lists, summarize them, format them into tables, or surface the key points.
  • AI-generated summaries for Mail, Messages, and voicemail transcripts. The app will provide one-line summaries of each email without you opening them. It also automatically displays important emails at the top of your inbox and lets you use smart replies to respond quickly to emails.
  • Focus Mode is getting an AI boost, too: A mode called “Reduce Interruptions” will use AI only to surface essential notifications.
  • A new look for Siri that makes the edge of the phone glow
  • Siri can understand commands when the speaker is “lost” in their words.
  • Siri can now answer troubleshooting questions about Apple products.
  • Better photo search and movie-making
  • Apple stated that there are more features to implement next year, such as the following:
  • Create images and emojis.
  • Automated photo cleanup
  • Other improvements to Siri, including its ability to use your personal information and the ability to take actions within apps
  • Integration of OpenAI ChatGPT.
