According to recent reports, AMD’s highly anticipated Ryzen 9000X3D desktop CPUs, featuring their next-generation 3D V-Cache technology, have been delayed. Initially, the launch was expected to happen in late 2024, with an unveiling in October. However, the release window has shifted, and the new CPUs are now slated to debut at CES 2025.
While AMD never publicly announced a specific release date for the Ryzen 9000X3D CPUs, they had shared the anticipated timeframe with significant motherboard vendors. Recently, AMD provided an update to these partners, indicating that the release has been postponed to CES 2025. This delay means that gamers eager for the enhanced gaming performance offered by the new 3D V-Cache technology will have to wait a bit longer.
The Ryzen 9000 “Zen 5” desktop CPUs did not fully meet the high-performance expectations initially set by AMD’s benchmarks, matching Intel’s 14th Gen CPUs in real-world testing. As a result, gamers seeking superior performance will need to hold out until the launch of the Ryzen 9000X3D.
Despite the delay, AMD may still release some new products this year. ASUS briefly showcased the Ryzen 9000X3D CPUs during the unveiling of their X870E/X870 motherboards but later removed the mention. Meanwhile, AMD is working on two new CPUs for the AM4 and AM5 platforms. The Ryzen 5 5500X3D is expected to launch soon for the AM4 platform, while the Ryzen 5 7600X3D is anticipated to hit the AM5 platform next month.
AMD’s Ryzen 9000X3D CPUs, based on the Zen 5 architecture, are designed for enthusiast gamers. These new chips are expected to include full overclocking support, increased LLC counts, and improved efficiency compared to the current Zen 5 CPUs, making them a significant upgrade for gaming enthusiasts looking for the best performance.
