Hi Aris and team,
with recent reports of melted 5090FE's power connectors (see der8auer's recent video on youtube), I was wondering, regarding the combination of Corsair SF1000 SFX PSU and an Nvidia RTX 5090FE:
Which combination do you think would be more safe to use:
1) Using the SF1000-included Corsair 12VHPWR cable (12VHPWR plug on GPU side with 2x Typ5 plugs on PSU side)
or:
2) Using the 5090FE-included 12VHPWR to 4x 8pin adapter in combination with 4x SF1000-included 8pin PCIe cables?
Thanks!
I don't have an FE and to be frank who cares about the FE? Only reviewer's and influencers get then,
Now about your question,
1) It is safe
2) It is NOT safe
Thanks for your assessment. It would have been great if Nvidia sent a card to your team... love your reviews.
I'm neither an influencer, nor a reviewer, nor a scalper. Just a gamer. But I was able to buy one on the second drop in Germany. But yes, it's true, it needs luck and nvidia store monitoring/notification tools to buy an FE right now.
NVIDIA doesn't even respond to my emails and phone calls. I guess they didn't like our review of the RTX 5080. Anyway, with the first chance, we will buy cards on our own and test them to inform the world. We are not "plain" reviewers here, but HWbusters 🙂
@crmaris I just read the following statement on the german news site Golem.de: "There are no issues with the Nvidia adapter itself, for a simple reason. The contacts are directly connected within the plug via a metal strip. While different contact resistances may still occur, the metal connection ensures electrical and thermal balance." Does this make sense? Hope you get an FE-card soon for further investigat ions 🙂
I don't trust any adapter. I also haven't examined myself NV's adapter.
