Hi everyone,
I’m experiencing a strange issue that might be related to my ASUS ROG Strix Gold 1000W power supply — though I’m not entirely sure.
Today, my PC rebooted several times without warning. It shuts down and immediately powers back on, almost like there was a brief power outage. I hear a distinct click from the PSU when this happens, which makes me think it’s not a system instability issue, but I can’t rule that out completely.
After each reboot, the audio on my system stops working entirely.
There are no other signs of electrical problems in my home — no flickering lights, no TV shutdowns, nothing unusual on the network.
I’ll keep monitoring the situation, but I’d appreciate any insights. Could this be a PSU fault, or something related to the electrical grid?
Thanks in advance!
Hi! It is better to write about this in our Discord server, PSU thread. The click you hear is most likely the NTC bypass relay, and it is normal.

I’m aware of the NTC relay clicking — this power supply does it every time the system shuts down. I consider that normal.
The issue is why it happens. If it were due to instability, the relay wouldn’t click; it would just crash with a BSOD or black screen — something like that.
It seems to be a problem with the power grid or the power supply itself. What do you think?
I joined Discord, but either I don’t have permissions yet, or there are multiple Discord servers. In HardwareBusters Official, I only see a video/news/article feed.
You have to finish registration — provide an email I think—or else you will be seen as a guest, not a member.
I'm discussing Discord with the server admin, let's get back to the topic please.

I'm not trying to solve the 'relay click' issue. I'm trying to understand why my system crashed several times yesterday. Each time followed the same pattern: system crash, power supply click, immediate reboot, and the sound card didn't work in the system.
If the instability were caused by the system, the power supply wouldn't have clicked. So I'm guessing the culprit is either a faulty PSU or I had some issues with the power grid yesterday.
The problems persist, another crash today, same pattern. While playing Battlefield, there's a click in the power supply, the system restarts, and the subsequent boot has no sound.
The power supply in the setup was replaced with an XPG Core Reactor II 1000W, and so far there have been no issues.
