Hi, I'm a first time pc builder from India. I'm building a pc for 3d modelling with the following specs:
1. 9950x3d cpu (arctic 420mm aio)
2. x870e carbon wifi msi motherboad
3. 64GB G.skill neo rgb.
4. Samsung 2tb 990 evo plus
5. Graphic card: rtx 5060ti 16gb (which i want to upgrade to 5090/5080 ti super after a year)
My question is regarding psus? I was looking to buy a 1200w psu to futureproof. Corsair PSU meet my requirement and were A rated on spl psu list as well as Intel psu selector list.
The problem is that corsair website lists two psu for both HX1200i and RMX Shift 1200 model.
A. For the corsair HX1200i, the new model has 17 sockets but the older one has less. Older is priced more than the new one. The shopkeers here are selling the older model in atx 3.0 box and are saying it is atx 3.1 read. Corsair's website also says it's 3.1 ready and show V-2x6 cable on the webpage but the psu manual says it has 12 vhpwr cable. (I understand both the cables are same but what about the psu side changes for atx 3.1) Are they just marketing it to clear their stock. The newer models are not available in my region. I'm not sure if it's safe to buy?
B. Other option is to go for RMX shift 1200 model. Atleast this has atx 3.1 ready labled on the box.
Please explain if you have any thoughts on the same and also which psu is better out of these two models? (considering price, fan failure feature, and 5090/5080 ti super upgrade)
The cable is the same, the connector only changes on the modular PCB and it is easy to check whether it is the previous or the new one (sense pins are deep into the socket in the new one).
I would get the HX1200i
But the HX1200i series doesn't come with the connector on the modular PCB. It has all 2x8 pin to V12-2x6 connector.
Can you please clarify?
There also one more model that became available Asus TUF Gaming 1200w (but it's a B Tier).
